First off, you won’t really need bodyguards if you are a lower leveled player. They definitely would help you succeed in the game, and you would be able to defeat opponents easier with a higher success rate, but they really aren’t necessary yet.

As you progress to the higher levels of Mafia Wars, you will find that some missions actually require you to have bodyguards. This is because the mission would be impossible to complete just by yourself. Obviously this is a major reason why bodyguards are of high importance to you when you are at a higher level in the game.

So we can see how they are useful, but how does one go about getting bodyguards.

There are several ways to obtain them, but the most common is by receiving them as ‘loot’ from battles that you win. Of course, you have to defeat that player to be able to loot his items, which means you will probably need an equal amount of bodyguards.

Another way of getting your hands on bodyguards is through gifts from other players in your mafia or family. This is a great example showing how important it can be to have a resourceful mafia with a large player count.
